When I bought sound forge it was version 6.0. This was the express version. It didn't have all the bells and whisels that sound forge pro had, but it was only 88 bucks. Well worth the money for the little things that I do with it. Try googleing sound forge express

My question is, what does sound forge have that another less expensive or free audio editor doesn't? Wavepad, wittch you can find here

Best Buy had a version of Sound Forge--don't remember what it was called for about $90.
The one I bought it for was pleased, though he had used the several hundred dollar version before.

I use sound forge eight, although I've also used versions 5 and 7. You can get jfw scripts for all three of those versions that make it accessible. however, if you want to do any multi track work, I'd say go for Cakewalk Sonar 5 studio edition. it's got more features. If you're just going to be doing mono or stereo recording and editing though, then i'd say go for sound forge seven or eight. I'm not sure if sound forge studio is accessible as i've never used it before.

I tried an early version of sf 8, but found it to be very unstable. I would guess that they have done a lot of new builds on it since 2005? You can get scripts for sf, but don't they cost money? I'm with Cam as far as multi track editng goes, cakewalk simplifies that a lot.
